Insulin for Life – Never an Option, Always a Way

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month, and for Hermoza, awareness is just a start.

For our Change the Game effort, Hermoza is partnering with Insulin for Life, a non-profit organization that aims to ensure widespread access to supplies, treatments, and care for those living with diabetes. By rescuing unused diabetes supplies in the U.S. and delivering to people around the world who have limited to no access to solutions, IFL’s dedication ensures every person living with T1D never has to go without.

According to the American Diabetes Association, the total cost of diagnosed diabetes in the U.S. in 2017 was $327 billion. Of that number, $237 billion involved medical costs and $90 billion involved reduced productivity in the field. This means, for families affected by diabetes, high costs of treatments and supplies force them to make sacrifices most families would never have to consider. Imagine, having to choose between a well-balanced meal, paying the utilities, securing fresh, clean water, OR procuring non-negotiable, life-saving treatment for a life-threatening disease. Seems impossible, right?

That’s where Insulin for Life comes in.

IFL provides insulin and disease management supplies free-of-charge to those with diabetes who would typically go without. They collect in-date, unopened supplies from individuals and organizations, carefully inspect them, then deliver them to vulnerable communities and populations. Committed to providing emergency care and support to communities affected by disaster, IFL remains on the front lines of relief during the aftermaths of both Hurricane Harvey and the California wildfires. IFL is fully licensed by the State of Florida as a safe, compassionate alternative to making life-threatening sacrifices.

According to a recent study, IFL found that in over 70 countries, 90,000 children with Type 1 Diabetes suffer and even die from lack of insulin. While IFL does not accept donations of pump supplies, they do accept insulin vials, pens, cartridges, A1C test kits, ketostix, glucagon, glucose meters and strips, lancing devices, syringes, pen needles, and lancets. Sending supplies to IFL is a total breeze. An easy, print-at-home label, shipping form, and a trip to the post office ensures no treatment or care is ever wasted.

But that’s not the only way you can help.

Every effort counts when making resources and care available to those living with Type 1 Diabetes. With Hermoza, your investment means even more. To say thank you, we’re hosting a giveaway.
