What to Pack for a Labor Day Weekend Away
A three-day weekend sounds simple until you're standing in front of an open suitcase wondering how many outfits a person reasonably needs for seventy-two hours.
Our answer? Fewer than you think.
The best Labor Day weekend packing list is built around pieces that can do more than one thing: swimwear you'll happily wear all afternoon, cover-ups that become actual outfits, and dresses easy enough for the day but polished enough for dinner.
Whether you're heading to the coast, checking into a resort, or squeezing in one last family beach weekend, here's what we're putting in the suitcase.
Pack a Two-Piece You'll Actually Want to Wear All Day
First into the suitcase: a really good two-piece swimsuit.
We're packing the Becca Tie Strap Bikini Top in Party on the Prairie with the Vanessa Reversible High Waist Bottom in Party on the Prairie.
The Becca has a clean straight neckline and adjustable tie straps that give the floral print a soft, feminine feel without making it overly sweet.
Then there's the Vanessa. The high-rise silhouette gives you comfortable coverage, and because the bottom is reversible, you're sneaking another swim look into the suitcase without actually packing another suit.
Exactly the kind of vacation math we like.
Pack the Matching Set You Can Throw Over Everything
This is where smart packing really starts.
The Dakota Shirt Cover-Up in Powder Blue Eyelet and Jenna Short Cover-Up in Powder Blue Eyelet give you a matching set that works over swim but doesn't look like you're wearing a traditional beach cover-up.
The Dakota is an airy short-sleeve button-down with a relaxed fit, while the Jenna Shorts have an easy pull-on shape and adjustable drawstring waist.
Wear them together over your swimsuit for breakfast before the beach. Wear the shirt open by the pool. Pair the shorts with a tank later. Button the shirt up with sandals for an afternoon walk.
Two pieces. A surprising number of outfits.
Pack the Family Swim Moment: Johanna in Santorini Dots
If the whole family is coming along, we're making at least one beach day a matching one.
Start with the Johanna One-Piece Swimsuit in Santorini Dots.
The asymmetrical one-shoulder neckline and waist-defining sash give this one-piece swimsuit a polished silhouette, while the blue-and-white Santorini Dots print feels exactly right for one last summer weekend by the water.
It's elegant, sculpting, and just statement-making enough to make the family photo worth taking.
Don't Forget the Littles
The best part? The Santorini moment doesn't have to stop with Mom.
For the girls, pack the Little Delilah Capped Sleeves One-Piece Swimsuit in Santorini Dots. The sweet smocked bodice and capped sleeves make it playful and comfortable for long pool days.
For the boys, the Little Pete Boys Trunks in Santorini Dots bring in the coordinating blue-and-white print with an easy drawstring waist and side pocket.
Together with the Johanna, you've got your Labor Day family swim look handled.
Matching without being too matching. Our favorite kind.
Pack One Cover-Up That Can Leave the Pool
You only need one really good cover-up if it's one you can keep wearing after you leave the pool.
The Natalia Cinched Tie Cover-Up in Red Orange earns its suitcase space for exactly that reason.
The midi length and collared silhouette feel polished, while the cinched tie waist gives it enough shape to wear as a standalone dress.
Throw it over your swimwear for the pool. Add sandals and earrings for lunch. Wear it again the next morning when nobody feels like putting together a complicated outfit.
Vacation pieces should work a little harder for us.
Pack One Dress That Solves the Dinner Question
Then comes the easiest item on the entire Labor Day weekend packing list: the dress you know you're wearing to dinner.
For us, that's the Ava Maxi Dress in Basically Breezy.
The soft white base, blue-and-white printed trim, wide straps, and relaxed silhouette give the Ava that very specific vacation quality of looking like you made an effort when getting dressed actually took about thirty seconds.
The back-tie detail adds just enough interest, and the breezy shape works for sunset drinks, dinner by the water, or one last walk before heading home.
One dress. Dinner solved.
The Labor Day Weekend Packing List
The trick isn't packing an outfit for every possible plan.
It's packing pieces that can keep up when the plan changes.
A two-piece like the Becca and Vanessa for long afternoons by the water.
The Dakota and Jenna for the beach, breakfast, and everything in between.
The Johanna, Little Delilah, and Little Pete for the family beach day.
The Natalia Cover-Up for the moments when you're technically leaving the pool but don't really want to get dressed.
And the Ava Maxi Dress waiting for dinner.
That's enough. Really.
Pack Light. Stay a Little Longer.
A Labor Day weekend away should feel easy from the minute you zip the suitcase.
Bring the pieces you'll wear twice. Choose swimwear you actually feel good spending the day in. Pack cover-ups that become outfits and dresses that don't require a styling strategy.
And leave a little room in the suitcase.
It's a long weekend, after all. You never know what might come home with you.
Besos,
Hermoza 🤍
